What Requires a Licensed Professional
- Refrigerant line connections and charging: Handling refrigerants (R-410A, R-32) requires an EPA Section 608 certification. Improper handling is illegal and can damage your system.
- Electrical wiring: The disconnect box, dedicated circuit breaker, and line-voltage connections typically require a licensed electrician and must pass local inspection.
- Permits: Most jurisdictions require a mechanical or HVAC permit, which requires a licensed contractor to pull.
- Warranty compliance: Many manufacturers void the warranty if installation is not performed or verified by a certified technician.

- Routing the line set through the wall and running it to the outdoor unit location.

- Running the low-voltage communication wire between indoor and outdoor units.
